Portraits and Pints Headshot Event in Winterville, NC
In September I had the opportunity to host a networking event along with The Winterville Chamber of Commerce and Local Oak Brewing. Chamber members were invited to Local Oak for a night of networking, food by Beeker's Brisket and BBQ, drinks from Local Oak, and headshots taken by yours truly. We set up an area outside so members could pop over to have their headshot taken. I thought taking them outside created a casual setting, and also gave people the option for a unique background for their pictures. I later emailed everyone their proofs, and they had the opportunity to purchase their digital images at a discounted rate.
It was raining when I arrived, but thankfully it cleared up and we enjoyed a relaxing evening getting to know each other, taking with friends, and enjoying the amazing food and drinks. I've been to similar events, but as a guest to have my photo taken, so it was a lot of fun to be behind the lens this time. I know posing by yourself can be awkward and taking the time to have these photos taken is not always a priority. So this was a great chance to get the photos done quickly in a fun, social setting. Almost everyone who walked up to me said "I don't like being photographed!". I assured them I'd be super quick and they could get back to the fun stuff!
We had a great turnout, I met lots of wonderful people, and had so much fun taking photos. I look forward to hosting something like this again in the future!

Another Special Senior Photo Session 2023
A few weeks ago, on a recent visit to New England, I had the opportunity to do another really special senior session. It was an honor to photograph my close friends' daughter, Morgan, who I have known since she was one day old. We share so many fun memories together and it was an absolute pleasure creating new memories taking her senior photos.
They spent a lot of time planning out props and scouting the perfect location. The location was gorgeous and we lucked out with the most perfect weather and lighting! Morgan was a pro at posing and was a breeze to work with.
Enjoy your senior year Morgan! I'm so proud of you and I know you are going to do great things. Yay Class of 2024!
DON'T Do These 3 Things Before Your Photo Session
I share a lot of advice and tips about what to DO when planning your photo session and today I'd like to tell you what NOT to do!!
1. DON'T overthink how you look
You're all dressed up and looking your best, so relax and let your photographer do the worrying for you. All you need to do is make sure you dress in something that makes you feel comfortable and confident.
You may be concerned about angles or how to sit, stand, or pose. If you aren't sure what to do during the session, just ask. If you aren't feeling comfortable, then speak up. You are the number one priority and your photographer wants you to feel confident. They should direct you in posing and they will take care of worrying about the angles, lighting, and if anything is out of place...they do this all the time. Be yourself, be natural, and smile. You are gorgeous!
2. DON'T experiment with a new hairstyle or make up
First of all, you want to look like yourself, not some version of yourself people won't recognize in the photos. For example, I wear my hair up 99% of the time. When I had my photos taken I did some with my hair down, then put my hair up for some. Guess which ones I liked better? The ones with my my hair up of course, because I looked like myself. Second, you don't want to try out new makeup or skincare the day of your photos. You may experience some sort of reaction or irritation to your skin. Or you may end up not liking the look and have to wash it off and start over, which will only add stress to your day. If you really want to try something out, then try it a few weeks ahead of time and practice getting the look right. Just be YOU!
3. DON'T stress about the weather
One thing in life that we have absolutely no control over is the weather! So it is definitely not worth worrying about because there is nothing you can do about it. Be sure to discuss cancellation policies due to weather with your photographer. Also discuss a Plan B. If the weather doesn't cooperate, what is the plan? Will you reschedule or move your outdoor session indoors? Having these conversations ahead of time and setting expectations will help avoid any misunderstandings. It will be OK!
